This review was completed by Amanda Harbin, staff reviewer with the YA Fantasy Guide.Reading this novel made me think about the scandalous gothic novels so loved by Jane Austen's Catherine in Northanger Abbey. This novel had the elements of a classic, while still maintaining a contemporary voice with which young adults will be able to identify. The storytelling is just contemporary enough that readers who don't think they enjoy classic books will appreciate it, and classic novel lovers will find it to be a fun and easy ride. Saundra Mitchell created a dark and intense world where fingertips brushing across bare wrists are enough to send the heart fluttering. In this world propriety faces off with mysterious psychic gifts leading to a fantastic ending that left me satisfied but secretly hoping that I will get to read more about the heroines uncertain future. I had a great time reading this book, and I will be looking for more work from this author!
